"Puff the magic Dragon" was a song we sang in kindergarten and it made me sad because it made me think of the inevitabile death of my Cairn Terrier, Murphy.
She did die 13 years later.
Of course, any drug implications in the song were oblivious to me, but as local crack head JPaul enlightened me, "chasing the dragon" is about heroin.
Recommending a song is not about what I might like, but more what you think is a great song and something people who would never hear it otherwise, might give a listen because you attest to its brilliance.
To me, I judge songs on their individual merit and I do not exclude anything because of the genre label placed upon them.
I think that "Puff" was more about a boy growing up than anything else.
The loss of magic and fantasy is a harsh blow.

Aren't we in the trust tree, thingey?
'k then, hobbes.
Try Alkaline Trio-This Could be Love, on for size.
I've got a book of matches, I've got a can of kerosene. I've got some mad ideas, involving you and me...
Or just about anything by Snow Patrol; Velocity Girl, Run, or Spitting Games, for instance.
Or The Killers-Mr. Brightside, 'cos I feel like that, a lot of the time.
Me, too.Originally Posted by hobbes

That's an order.

Even though I have it on vinyl, I was really tempted to buy, John Martyn - Solid Air, on cd version the other day. Dragged meself away from the market before I could spend my dinner pennies. So I nominate;
May You Never - John Martyn.
Could listen to it every hour, every day and not get bored.
