Interesting arcticle about FireFox here: Be clicking on the image....

We have all seen these banners before or heard people say "Firefox is Faster, Firefox has Lower Requirements, Firefox is Secure, Firefox defends me from all Spyware, etc." How misleading is it? Read on.

That site has many things I've known for years. (seems to take shots at FF)

I remember a FF fanboy telling me that anyone who says they used tabbed browsing before FF is a liar.

    Hilariousness-icity.

Anyway, the browser market, just like the game console market, will have their fanboys.

FF does seem to have the most and best extensions though.

Opera is making a run at them though with IE7 closing in as well.

I've only heard about three of those myths. I don't think any of them affect my choice to use Firefox.
    It's hot in Topeka.

I've heard many more than that.

I think the main draw for FF users are the extensions.
I just want a fast browser with little or no hiccups.

I have IE7 (haven't had 1 problem yet) on this computer and Opera on my desktop.

lots of them are very badly written for example the the activex one claims its safe. when clearly running code from an unknown source without user permission and not in a sandbox is plain stupid and very insecure.

the 86% compliance of a web standard that is now becoming obsolete is pretty good and i would give it a (b) is complete crap. he also completly misses the lack of decent css support in ie.

You can say whatever you want but Firefox really is faster for me than IE.
    Even without the fasterfox plugin.

And the security...all browser will have a security threats eventually somewhere.
It's the time needed to fix it which is important.
Not how many threats there are.

"Firefox extensions can be very unsafe"
    -ofcourse,anything can be unsafe.
Again...it's what is done about it that counts.
if I remember correctly it didn't take more than a day to find out about the greasemonkey flaw.

And who ever said Firefox is the solution to spyware?
It helps you in preventing to get spyware on your pc.
He's making it sound like Firefox is being advertised as a spyware removal tool.

    hmm...asspie

firefox does a good job at preventing spyware. i used it since a reformat a long time ago and and recently i scanned my pc and had like 8 detections. Nothing even serious.

And that was the first time i scanned the pc.

Yeah I mean I haven't tested IE7 yet, but I doubt I will turn towards IE knowing that both FireFox/Opera exist.. BUt as for like 'Performance' I wouldn't know they both seem the same to me.. But in the future as FireFox/Opera continue to update their programs I might switch to see if a big difference.. Because those Myths did trip me up a little...

for those that have tried IE7........
does it install alongside IE6, or overwrite it?
I was browsing through the preview site, and it doesn't look bad
I got Opera, so I'm not too worried about it,
(had to can FF, 1.5 ran like shit )
but I don't see the point in overwriting IE for a beta
