Thread: Norton Antivirus 2002

  1. #1
    Hello,

I wanted to uninstall and reinstall Norton antivirus 2002. However, when I tried to do it through the add/remove programs my comp would freeze and didn't want to uninstall it. This Norton antivirus came preinstalled on my system and when.
Then I removed all the files and folders related to it in the program files and everywhere else on my HD. After that I removed all the registry that I found was related to "Norton" or "Symantec" (I used jv16 power tools for that...specific search for "Norton", "Symantec" and "nav" registry).
I downloaded another version of Norton antivirus and tried to install it....BUT the installation wizard keeps telling me that I have another version on my system installed and it cannot proceed. I ran all the search clients that I have to find any file related to Norton and deleting it and still the same...it refuses to install another version because supposedly I have it already installed. Does anyone know how to deal with this annoying situation. Is there any way to get rid of the Norton. Should I look somewhere else for a good antivirus program and what are the good alternatives.

I have WinXP home and the Norton that I had (still "have") is NAV 2002

    Any suggestion please....

Go to the Symantec site. They have a tool that completely removes Norton products.
