We police ourselves, for the most part, and we have a rather capacious toolkit for the doing.

Mods in the lounge are by-and-large referees, and not enforcers.

I agree with you.

It should be for everyone.

However if someone doesn't want to join in with a specific thread, they don't have to. If they see the nature of a thread and the people contributing and don't like it, then nothing forces them to post in it.

Lots of people "lurk" in that manner. Or just join in with threads which they are comfortable with.

As I pointed out earlier in this thread, though, there are occasions when a small heads-up after a n00b has joined in after misunderstanding could prevent unnecessary offence.
But as you have been appending warnings to your posts since then I can see you're a believer in prevention rather than cure.

I was under the impression manker wore rather fetching yellow pants.

I'm unsure if it would be entirely proper that I weigh in on this one, and I'm further unsure if I'm even coherent. I'll probably regret this in the morning, but that's a ways away yet.
