    You mean ACC

aac is the closest right now to replace mp3.
On internet radio like di.fm, an 24kbps AAC+ stream almost manages to provide the same quality as 128 kbps Mp3 stream, and uses only 2-4 kBps bandswidth to stream. One could 'EASILY' fit around 2 hours of good music into a 24kbps aac+ stream and have it only reach 15mb on max.

regualr AAC also cuts down on half the size of an mp3 and provides the same quality.

any new format will be drm protected... Its no supprise that the RIAA will be forcing the developer to implement drm.

MP3 is okay with me. The only thing that would be cool to at is 5.1 sound. I recall "Mp3 surround" being created but that never took off.
    blah blah blah... whatever...

MP3 will probably stay for quite a while as it is the format thats compatible with most audio devices and et cetera. But in terms of high quality codecs I'd say FLAC would be the next wave to come

    It's more like a container.

If Microsoft has its way, it's going to be wma. I'd rather see flac or something similarly lossless. I don't think we'll see mp3 supplanted any time soon.
