What about comparing it to the effects like those where we see fruit rotting, but over a few minutes. Or maggots eating a corpse. I think that's "stop motion" they use for that.

I could be wrong, but didn't they use the rotting thing in "The Belly of an Architect". That's from memory so it's probably pish.
