I'd like to slim down on the security applications I have actively running. I'm not looking for different programs. Believe me, I've tested a lot of configurations. Please only knowledgeable responses. Thanks.

OK my specs. Pretty standard hardware. I built this system, I think over 3yrs ago. Not a gamer nor a video editor. So I don't give a hoot about the latest & greatest. Antec case & antec PSU 350watt, 2 - 120mm antec fans 1 in/ 1 out. Asus mb integrated vid & sound (yes I don't care). 2 x 512mb crucial ddr 2700. AMD 2500 barton, stock thermal pad & hsf. 2 drawer HDD for easy cloning & swapout, not hot swappable. DVD rom liteon, TDK 32/10/40x CDRW & FDD. I'm on cheapo unlimited $5/month 56k. XP vlk SP2 updated.

My active security setup. Set to go on Windows startup: ProcessGuard 3.2 Full, NOD32, Sygate pf (last freeware version), Regprot 2.0, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware. Then after startup I start Teatimer (Spybot S&D) & WinPatrol.

Passive protection: Bugoff, SpywareBlaster, xp-AntiSpy, ScriTrap, DSOstop2, Harden-It, SocketLock & Windows Worms Doors Cleaner.

Wow you have that locked down tighter than nun's corset . One thing that stands out to me is the Barton core is it tricked out or just stock settings ?

Mabye just a little over kill on the start up time but bet you have never had a virus or malware problem eh ? I find your set up interesting tho as I just have Giant Anti spyware , Symantec Client Security with Anti virus set to tamper protection running at start up .

Of course running Firefox and update all software regularly . So far no problems with 4 sharing my computer ( wife and 2 boys ) .

agreed, depending on what you are doing, if it is just lame stuff or pure business each require its type of security.
you are indeed safe apart from using proxies / router

Update. I've subtracted (uninstalled) WinPatrol, RegProt & TeaTimer. As ProcessGuard 3.2 Full makes those 3 apps redundant.

I know it's been said before, but since I began using Firefox(about 2 years now), I rarely have a problem with spyware or malware. And, of course I've never had this browser hijacked.

Outside of that, I run the usual Adaware-Pro, Spybot and CCleaner programs occasionally while AVG Free and Zone alarm Pro run in the background.

Since this is my topic. And I neglected to say it, I use Opera. Imo ff is weak & cc is a pos. Maybe I'll try when ff2 is final. Btw I stated no alternate apps.

That's why I like reading your posts ," I " know you've tried the above mentioned software and maybe found lacking ?

Most people would be happy with the Microsoft brand of security like Windows firewall and Microsoft Anti -Spy ware , we know better ? Think we should swap member titles I want to be the computer abuser for a change .

I remember Look "n" stop as a firewall can't remember why I quit using it .
Sorry for rambling on tho .

Well my friend. I stopped using ff cause of crashes, memory leaks & slower loading times than Opera. And just cause others are reading this, yeah I tried all the ff tweaks. In all ways including plugins ff is shit compared to Opera. As far as cc, that fn app is stupid. I tried it after my trusted TU2006, TMAS, RegCleaner, RegSeeker & WD2006. All areas of them trustworthy. Didn't find shit. With cc not all the app can be used safely, so that makes it a pos. I personally stopped using LnS cause it fd with my email. L8r.

Hi Zap , I started leaning to more of an "all in one " security setup like a Symantec Client Corp, for start up issues and ease of use . Does not interfere with my p2p programs and have it tweaked enough to satisfy even an old fellow like me .

Not for everyone but I can only speak from experience , has served me well .
Could n't image not using FF or Opera but what every floats your boat is fine with me . Choice is nice tho eh ?
