Bittorrent all the way along with utorrent i would say.Please stay away from kazaa i think it is to much trouble to deal with half the songs you download are messed up.

I'm fairly certain that they are accepting new members..

Have you checked your spam folder? I think that's where their confirmation email ended up for me. If you can't find it, I'd say try to register again.
