The AM2 based motherboards and CPUs have started to appear.

So far I'm not impressed by the pricing nor the performance. Memory performance isn't what I expected.

The platform will probably only gain viability (especially for those of us already on a decent s939 setup) when low latency DDR2 or even better, DDR3, becomes available.

Even so, it looks like the upcoming Intel Conroe series might be top dog this cycle.

We'll all have a better idea come next Sept./Oct. I'll bet.

Man, I didnt know these things were coming out so fast. I work at a PC store and a lot of people ask when DDR2 will make it to amd boards. Those CPUs dont look very appealing either..

I also read up on toms hardware about the Pentium 805D that will easily reach 4Ghz stable on air cooling...and beat the FX57 in several benchmarks...for onlly $125 that is increadible!

    A lot of people?
Most of my customers don't even know what RAM is nevermind that there are different kinds.

I despair at customer terms like:
"I downloaded it off the CD" meaning I installed it
"Windows tells me I haven't got enough memory" meaning the hard drive's full up
"Windows keeps fucking up" meaning I've been surfing for pr0n and downloaded all sorts of shit

That reminds me, I have an HP box in the car boot that needs looking at.

    Must be a mirage...
    im like wtf...
anyways this AM2 thing looks like its probably gonna blow over as fast as a gust of wind...

Not 2 excited about AM2, at all.
I guess we'll have to wait for K8L to get some interesting news about AMD.
For the few months coming, seems like this "Marylin Conroe Intel Inside" will be the one to beat...
Just hope Intel's leadership doesn't go further than a few months and that AMD can get something competitive, otherwise, we'll be sailing down on the high cost CPU sea. Hey, even AMD learned how to settle you back quite a punch when they are on the top.
