Thread: Cd Rom

  1. #1
Oh crap, my computer suddenly won't recognize my cd-rom
Could this be due to a registry problem?
    (It wasn't my fault, I swear )
My external usb burner/rom works just fine, so I've been using that one, but would really like my
    internal to work.
When I put a disk in, and click on it, it says: "Please insert disk into drive "D"
The "Auto insert notification" box is checked, but it does not auto-run disks with this option either.
That is to say: it won't run any kind of disk.
    Any help?
    Thank you!

Are u saying the laser "eye" is dirty, or that the whole drive is worn out?
I would hate to chuck it if there is an alternative

imo the drive or one of its components has worn and it causin'
the laser to go off line.
Its not workin' so have a fiddle with the laser c what happens.

What's the last thing you remember doing before it stopped working? If you go to Device Manager, does it say 'This device is working properly'? Can you get it to work in DOS mode? How old is this drive?

I have gone through 3 DVD drives. I don't understand it. I rarely used them. They just blink.

    ----------------------

Check this out! I had a bad CD, disk. Full of dull scratches. Those cleaning machines don't work. So here is what I did to fix it.

I put a cloth polishing wheel on my bench grinder. Used some of that polishing compound (aluminum oxide). After 4 polishing sessions, the disk was better than new! It worked!

Now, if I can find a resin (clear epoxy?) that can fill deep scratched groves, I could probably fix those disks, and polish them too.

Hell yeah! If it's still under warranty you should get on the phone with tech support right away. They can either help you troubleshoot it, or send you a new one. You can also chat with them online if you'd prefer (I just did that the other day)...

Yep, I did, and they are sending me another one. after jumping thru a few hoops
(Their tech department could use a little "help" of its own)
My warranty expires in august, but thats ok cuz I'm going to build a new pc by then :teehee:
