I need to(or can I?) add a IDE slave hdd to a pc that has a SATA hdd as a master, if I plug it into a ide socket, do I need to do anything with the jumper settings or bios?

try checking if your bios allows you to have a boot order containing 2 different hdd's you could then have SATA-IDE-blah blah blah
if not just try it with out doing anything, but i think you should put the jumper on the ide to slave

There is no problem with what you want to do. Just be sure the drive doesn't have a master boot record so it won't boot. The drive will then be accessible in Windows.
