    If I were to stick this shiny nail into that white power outlet ?

    In canadian/american ones?
    In the big, round, center hole nothing would happen (ground).
    In the wider/taller of the side 'slots', nothing would happen.
    In the smaller/shorter of the side 'slots', you'd get a little zap.
    If it's bent and happen to touch the smaller/shorter slot with either of the other 2, you get sparks and, eventually, the breaker will trip. The nail will heat up a lot too.
    If it's a GFI then it will trip right away.

    We have much bigger, round, center hole
    And much wider/taller side 'slots'

    i remember in physics class we were taught that when you put a screw driver into the small bottom left or right hole nothing happens but if you put two in there and one in the stink it's called a shocker.
