Thread: 3 hard drives, dvd, video card with 430W

    Question Mark

    Hi, Right now I have 2 hard drives, dvd and video card with the 430W power supply. if I add a hard drive can something get damaged?

    We would need a more detailed specification (cpu, graphics card type, etc) to give a definitive answer.

    However, since the main current draw of a hdd is during the few seconds of spin-up it is unlikely that your PSU would be unable to cope, unless it is already very close to its limits in which case you will almost certainly already be experiencing problems.

    What vid card and CPU? They are the most power hungry components.

    However, if it's a decent PSU then 430W should be fine regardless.

    edit: damn you lynx, this is getting ridiculous

    my video card is an gforce fx 5900 xt and atholon xp 2700 for the cpu.
    the psu cost me like 50 - 60 dlls it's a linkworld or something like that.

    Neither of those are big power consumers, so your psu should have no problems coping with the extra 10w or so consumed by an additional hard drive.
