Thread: Scuba Diving anyone?

  1. #1

    Cool

Been sorting out my new venture today of Scuba Diving.
It’s something I’ve wanted to do for some years now.

So far today I've got of ebay,
    BCD - Tigullio Searider,
    SCUBAPRO REGULATOR Mk2 1st Stage With R190 2nd Stage & R190 Octopus.
    Both at a great price.

all I need now is a console "pressure & depth gauge"
and a couple of 12 ltr tanks, the tanks I can't get off ebay as it's a non postable item, only local pickup.
new price will be around £140 for each tank, I would rather buy second hand so long as the tanks are in test.

i've already got things like wetsuit, fins, mask, ect
I do a lot of snorkelling; the water gets quite clear in the summer as you can see by the pictures.
    This is me

I wonder if anyone has had a go at snorkelling or Scuba Diving,
    would be nice to know.
I think it's a great thing to try out, we have quite a few shipwrecks just offshore and underwater gullies.

I would recommend you get those regs serviced before you use them (I assume you know this but thought it worth mentioning anyway)
is there any reason you want two tanks?

If you are serious about diving may I suggest you go for a computer console

My old beaten up Aladin Air has served me well. Many like the wrist mounted guages but i like the consoles as the compass is attached. I will say that I regret going for the digital compass over an old fashioned mechanical version.

consider a dry suit if you are a UK diver. wet or semi dry suits are ok in the summer but you will get cold.

    Thanks for the reply,

I'm trying to keep the cost to a minimum,
I could quite easily go out and spend £1000+ but that's just not me.
no reason to spend such money, I think if you get quality second hand goods
and like you said, have them tested.
for me, I would be pleased knowing it's cost me feck all to setup.

I want two tanks as I find 40 mins in the water would not be enough for
what I want to do, The longest time snorkelling was 2 hours,
mainly going with the tide, probably covered a 2 mile stretch mapping the ground as I went,
vast variation of ground, from one side of the town it's mainly chalk base going onto flints then into gullies at the west side of the town.

I will have a look for a computer console, may get a bargain,
that's why I like eBay so much, That Aladin Air looks ideal.

I'm quite lucky on the wetsuit side of things as I do surfing,
    I have a 5mm spartan winter suit and a 3mm summer suit.
just recently I was just given a 6mm neoprene drysuit, well pleased with it,
the dump valves and seals are ok.

I got a Beaver tech weight system belt last week also off eBay, it can be filled with lead shot.

    Nice one

I saw that jellyfish on the beach in blackpool today
I prodded it with a stick
    I think it was dead

Also, I don't feel compelled to being under water. Scaryyyy

What level training are you at?

    @ Sonja,
it's the time of year, i've not known of anyone being stung by them.
the biggest jellyfish washed up at Sheringham was 110 cm wide

I still don't know what species it is.

The quickest way to kill a Jellyfish is to prod it with a stick
    what are you like

I think i may do my video blog, under the sea!
    It's a whole new world

@ Vidcc, not done any paddy course,
I've just picked info up over the years, my first dive will be inshore out of the tide, just keep it simple to strart with.
Local shipwreck just offshore from weybourne 200 yards of the beach but in 16-18 metres of water, very deep beach with lots of tide on the flood.
will be interesting but I won't go alone on that dive.

Paddy is ok for "plug and play" diving but Bsac or other "progression standard" type clubs for the UK would be a better. IMO it would be worth the money to at least get an open water cert. from paddy. However I'm not going to make any judgements on training, I hope you at least know about bottom time, ascension rates, safety stops, surface time before next dive and maximum bottom time and depth of next dive. but I would seriously suggest you find a pool to practice uprighting and dumping air with the dry suit before going out under the briney.

    Good luck and be safe.

    Norway.
reported deaths of more than 300 puffins & blinded nearby farmed salmon, caused by the Aequorea vitrina jellyfish.

    Norway

@ vidcc, Nice one dude, And thanks for the advice
    we have two lacal clubs
    http://www.norfolkdiver.com/ - http://www.angliandivers.co.uk/
    Will see how I go.
I have a mate who has passed the Paddy and has done offshore diving with norfolk diver, it's a good club but not cheap.
