Ronaldo has been blamed for getting his United team-mate Rooney sent off during England’s World Cup quarter-final defeat by Portugal.
Prior to that, Ronaldo had said he wanted to quit Old Trafford to join Real Madrid.
United dismissed the outburst and told him to return to training. Then came the Rooney controversy.
On Thursday, new Real coach Fabio Capello said he wanted Ronnie at the Bernabeu.
Now the United board want a £20million deal done — with all the funds going straight to boss Ferguson to buy a replacement.
