    hey guys hows it going...

im in bit of a pickle here, i built a computer for a friend and i think i fried the usb controller on the motherboard i was trying to plug the front usb connectors in and i think i plugged it wrong (because there was no power) so i went back in and plugged it in properly.

but now when i try plugging in ANY usb device in to any of the ports i get "usb device not recognized" error btw i unplugged the front usb ports (thought maybe that was the problem)

i tried reinstalling the usb drivers through device manager and had no luck.

i dont know what to do

    Specs of the computer
    Windows XP SP2
    Asus A8N-VM
    AMD64 3000+ s939
    512mb ram

    USB enabled in BIOS?

Does USB hub and USB host controller show in Device Manager?

Ouch. Looks like a USB 2.0 PCI card is next.

Before you give up totally you can try to remove the motherboard from power completely, that includes removing the battery and disconnect the power connector from the motherboard. Using a ohm meter lead or a short wire start touching leads inside the power connector on the motherboard to discharge any voltages that may be left behind in the caps to try and unlock the usb chip again. Its kind of random and is definately a shot in the dark but if you reversed the polarity of the usb chip this may bring it back.
