Advanced Micro Devices announced Monday plans to buy Canadian graphics chip-maker ATI Technologies for $5.4 billion in a deal that could help AMD match or beat its rival, Intel, as a supplier of graphics chips.
But Caris & Company analyst Rick Whittington said the deal can best be described as "defensive" and presents a number of integration challenges.

"At this stage, their management must be focused on those tasks, not trying to marry some difficult Canadian bride."
