Advanced Micro Devices announced Monday plans to buy Canadian graphics chip-maker ATI Technologies for $5.4 billion in a deal that could help AMD match or beat its rival, Intel, as a supplier of graphics chips.

But Caris & Company analyst Rick Whittington said the deal can best be described as "defensive" and presents a number of integration challenges.

    AND THIS:

"At this stage, their management must be focused on those tasks, not trying to marry some difficult Canadian bride."

i, for one, think this is pretty shitty news. intel kinda asked for it though. they were shorting ati chipsets from us (not allowing ati to build costing them money) for quite some time now. even though, yeah, intel was advertising lots on LGA 775 sockets supporting ati chipsets for crossfire. that's exactly why i'm pissed. i'm looking forward to possibly buying a conroe and i wanted to go crossfire also. gay.

(same as news post. i can't emphasize this enough!)
