Thread: Help A Newb- File Formats

  1. #1
I was just wondering if you guys could please explain how to get the goodies from software file formats. In other words what you're supposed to do with the thing once you find it. The formats i'm having trouble with are

    .bin
    .iso (just burn right?)
    .rar (winrar or something)
Fairlight Reactor (or something like that, no clue)

    Thanx

.iso files - use Undisker from www.undisker.com
.rar files - Use WinRar, it is the best and kick ass
.bin files - they are LINUX files I guess and dunno if Windows can be used to extract them

do i still need to d/l if i already have burning soft ware, e.g. nero 5??

  4. Software & Hardware   -   #4
yes u do because nero can only copy files but undisker will EXTRACT the contents of the .iso files. Dont worry the size of Undisker it's only 2 or 3 MB

.bin files are used in conjunction with .cue files
when you download a .bin file for a game or an application, there will always be an accompanying .cue file.
download both, then select the .cue file to burn in nero (or whatever you use to burn cd's)
the .cue file will tell nero exactly what to burn (the .bin file), and all should be good

Nero can burn an .ISO file directly.

ISOBuster can extract files from an .ISO or .BIN file.

    Hope this helps.

Nero can also burn .bin files, but it's easier if you use WinISO to either extract the files from the .bin, or convert it to .iso format (which can also be burned with Nero).

for .bins i keep hearing about .cue files, do i have to d/l these seperately or are they included with the download, or does it matter?

If you do it the way I suggested, you won't need any .cue files. They are just instructions that tell Nero how to burn the .bin file.
