Not that it matters to me, but the arguement was whether you could open a kazaa .dat file in WMP, which you cannot. You can use .dat view, that's it.

If you could open a partial download with a simple windows program that everyone owns, then why would they have designed Datview?

That's the point of the avipreview. No need to copy a movie's contents, just select the dat and play in avipreview.

Oh Christ, now I see what you are talking about.

VCDs or VideoCDs have a .dat file which contains the data for the movie. You can open this file with WMP and some other types of software.

The file we were talking about here, is also a .dat file, but its a kazaa data file, sorta like a temp file, until the download is completed. While they have the same extension, they are very different things. Use can use Datview to open a partially downloaded .dat file, and view it, to see if it named correctly.

For a second, I thought maybe i'd smoked too much pot.

    Im smoking skunk myself

the fact remains i can drag a .dat from my shared folder to my desktop, copy it and open it with wmp, some work with powerdvd also. once your codecs are installed your media players should recognize this works with vcd svcd avi and wmv(?)
