I just felt with the focus on the Middle East, I would highlight some other recent world events that may not be getting the attention that they should.
35,000 forced to flee volcano in the Philippines
At least 481 dead, tens of thousands displaced from monsoons in India
At least 200 dead from Ethiopian floods
Tamil Tigers end water blockade in Sri Lanka
Japan marks 61st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima
India and Pakistan expel diplomats
UN to increase presence in Haiti

things are quiet until hitler decides he'd like to invade russia
so, he does
the russians are like "OMG WTF D00DZ, STOP TKING"
and the germans are still like "omg ph34r n00bz"
the russians fall back, all the way to moscow
and then they all begin h4xing, which brings on the russian winter
the germans are like "wtf, h4x"

As to that last, I wonder how they settled so readily at that...maybe an easy opportunity to put something on the positive side of the tote-board?
Maybe NATO could send in a few troops to keep the little girls safe from the pending U.N. invasion...
