Thread: Please Help, My Father Is Driving Me Mad

1. #1
My father got a demo tape with his 1984 Oldsmobile. It contained a song he liked, but the tape was lost.
All he can tell me is that Toto-Africa was on the tape and the song he liked contained the words "Leaving it all behind"- anybody recognize this?
Aren't we in the trust tree, thingey?

It was a sampler tape, you know, 12 songs, each from a different artist.

The song is country-ish, sung by a male.

It is not "Leaving on a Jet plane".

Try this: Eagle Eye Cherry

Hope it's the one!

No, too modern Rocktron.

The song I need was probably written before 1984 and the "leaving" part is probably pronounced "leavin' " as in a country song.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, though.

I think you're SOL, unless someone else had that demo tape...

things are quiet until hitler decides he'd like to invade russia
so, he does
the russians are like "OMG WTF D00DZ, STOP TKING"
and the germans are still like "omg ph34r n00bz"
the russians fall back, all the way to moscow
and then they all begin h4xing, which brings on the russian winter
the germans are like "wtf, h4x"

Well, the demo tape was not like a sampler of unknown groups, but a collection of popular songs (like Toto-Africa).

So I'm sure many know of it from its original source and not the demo tape.

BJ Thomas, maybe? A song about divorce?

Try this

Jim Capaldi - Living On The Edge. Jim Capaldi

You know I've had my share of dealing with despair.
I'm tired of seeing my dreams vanish in the air.
Enough of users and all them two time losers.
I've seen that killing floor and I just won't take no more.

So I'm gonna move out on the highway.
Head on down the road leaving it all behind.
Had enough of lying. There'll be no more crying this time.
Living on the edge. Running with the wind.
Soaring to the heights on an eagle's wing.

If you wanna see your spirit flying free.
Then step outside your mind and cross over the line.
Don't spend your lifetime weeping.
For things that ain't worth keeping.
Life can be very short and you know everybody is bought.

So I'm gonna move out on the highway.
Head on down the road leaving it all behind.
Had enough of lying. There'll be no more crying this time.
Living on the edge. Running with the wind.
Soaring to the heights on an eagle's wing.

It's time to go down to Mexico.
Mescalitos' song will help you to be strong.

So come on move on down the highway.
Head on down the road leaving it all behind.
Had enough of lying. There'll be no more crying this time.

The only reason i'm confident this is right is because the timing is about right, the album this song is from, Fierce Heart, was released in 1983.

Good Luck.
