With truecrypt you create encrypted volume of desired size, which when mounted functions like a logical partition. Just drag and drop your files into the volume.

Any trouble removing truecrypt and restoring the computer should I decide to for whatever reason? Any other problems or issues that anyone has noticed? What about encrypting photos?

    There's also Universal Shield
    http://www.everstrike.com/shield.htm.
It can lock, hide, and encrypt files or folders. It does everything I need to secure my files.

I have in on a usb drive. it is reliable. don't quote me on this, but I am pretty sure you can create a hidden volume. With the hidden volume you would store all the files and folders you want with in it. Then you would have to go into the program and mount it in order to view the files.

as for the complex part. it is more complex I think. who are you trying to hide stuff from friends/family? if so, the more effort you put into hidding the files, the better chance that they won't even have an idea about how to get to them.
