invitation sites are generally faster than public torrent sites.

For instance. Mininova has alot of the stuff that I wan't but due to hit-and-runners I'm not able to get it because there's no one seeding the damn thing. On a site like Oink, you have a better selection of music than the inventory on public torrents (on pub torrents they can throw out anything but on Oink the upload has to follow specific guidelines, like no transcodes) and most oink torrents will max out your connection when downloading.

And if you really want quality shit get newsgroups but you have to pay.

Thanks you for the information. Clearer than the entire thread..

    private trackers are better because:

    they get releases earlier.
alot of torrents on public trackers filter down from certain private trackers.

ppl have to maintain a good ratio (send back the same amount of data they download, or more).
this makes a huge difference in the speeds u can achieve.

they can also be safer. u need invited. in theory u should only invite somebody u know or trust. doesnt quite work right, but still safer. the mpaa cant just jump on the torrent without being a member of the site.

when ur a member of the private site, u can make an effort to become part of the community. i particularly like some of the sites im on simply for the great community spirit it has.

there are high standards. some sites only let trusted/experienced users upload torrents. some sites only allow u to use certain bittorrent clients. they ban the clients that send alot of bad data. thus increasing standards.

i could go on, but those are a few key reasons why i prefer private trackers.

    Generally...
    They are more secure
They are faster in terms of dl speed
They are faster in terms of pretimes
    They have good tight-knit communities
With just a half dozen assorted accounts at private trackers you have access to many things not found on public trackers.
Also somthing about a private community intrigues most people, attaing the most elite of private trackers can easily turn into a small addiction

EDIT by the time I finished posting this, john pretty much covered it

You forgot 1 important thing: the files are verified. In public trackers sometimes fakes appear

It's much simplier than all of this who gets what first crap...i've been hit twice by hbo for d/ling programs. Both of those times, i used public trackers...torrentspy, piratebay, mininova, isohunt. Ever since, i've been using private trackers....not a word since. The harder it is for YOU to get, the harder it is for THEM to find out about it. torrents have this unfortunate problem of it being very easy to see the ip addresses of those in the swarm. Therefore, if the swarm is hard to get into, the safer you are. Peerguardian can't save you from this....as i've learned the hard way.

Private sites generally will give better speeds.
Have files that are ussually of better quality.
Have the files before public sites in most cases.
    Have better community feeling.

Piblic sites generally have slow speeds on most files.
    Dead files.
Crappy quality on alot of the files.
However have larger selection of content.

Hope that sums it up for you.

In a big invite site, where they have good torrents can't be searched anywhere.

even though everyone here is just saying the same thing and john prety much said it all I thought i'd throw my 2 cents in the ring.

In my opinion private trackers are better because if your like me and want alot of specialised torrents once your on the right trackers you can find alot of stuff public ones won't ever have. plus the speeds ect ect....and they're private so like they're just better. best not to question these things realy
