I have not tried reinstalling the chipset drivers. Can I even do that at this point?

What do you mean by "at this point"?

Drivers can be uninstalled and reinstalled at any time.

You can also use the Hardware Update Wizard for a specific device. Just use the Device Manager and select the Properties of the device and then select the Driver tab.

Did that but to no avail.

Bought a Logitech USB mic today and it works just fine. Odd, but whatever, it works.
