    After months of indecisive decision making, I finally resisted the urge to go for a lowly 7600GT and now bought myself a shiny new 7900GT:

    Asus EN7900GT nVidia GeForce 7900GT(450MHz) 256Mb DDR3(1.3GHz) 256-Bit Dual DVI-I HDTV-Out PCI Express Graphics Card

    http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...03&cid=999.243

    The card runs like a dream and I get decent FPS on max settings for most games, and it's also surprisingly quiet. A worthy upgrade from my ancient x800gto.

    The only problem now is that I still want overclocked it, preferably by 10-20% for next-gen games, but the stock GPU fan is really weak and the card heats up fast even with a bit of overclocking.

    I've never bought a GPU cooler, so any suggestions are welcome.

    Cheers off to fragging w/o lag.

    Oh and quick scores from 3dmarks:

    03 16234
    05 7734
    06 4012

    Card is running stock.

    Sorry to tell ya! You should've bought it later since Nvidia is going for the G80 soon!

    And you should've bought it later because assuming you have evga; you could've used the step up program haha.

    I think it was a bit wasteful too. How the heck could you call an X800 "ancient"?

    I just upgraded to a computer with two 7900GTX's, but that was from a PC with an NVidia 4800ti. Even that card played the latest games on at least a medium graphics setting. I could still play Call of Duty with graphics on high too.

    I also agree with Shiranai_Baka on waiting for the G80 which is set to be out before the end of the year. I might even out perform two 7900GTX's, which it should given their track record for last 3 generations eg - 6800ULTRA SLI gets beat by a 7800GTX, 7800GTX SLI gets beat by a 7900GTX, it will still be light years ahead of any current NVIDIA card since it will do HDR+AA.

    Some specs:

    Here are the rumored specs of NVidia's next gen cards supposedly set to be released before the end of the year.

    * Unified Shader Architecture
    * Support FP16 HDR+MSAA
    * Support GDDR4 memories
    * Close to 700M transistors (G71 - 278M / G70 - 302M)
    * New AA mode : VCAA
    * Core clock scalable up to 1.5GHz
    * Shader Peformance : 2x Pixel / 12x Vertex over G71
    * 8 TCPs & 128 stream processors
    * Much more efficient than traditional architecture
    * 384-bit memory interface (256-bit+128-bit)
    * 768MB memory size (512MB+256MB)
    * Two models at launch : GeForce 8800GTX and GeForce 8800GT
    * GeForce 8800GTX : 7 TCPs chip, 384-bit memory interface, hybrid water/fan cooler, water cooling for overclocking. US$649
    * GeForce 8800GT : 6 TCPs chip, 320-bit memory interface, fan cooler. US$449-499
    Anyways, just my 2 pennies. Happy fragging!

    Meh I got it with another $40 rebate so it's not bad for $260, plus I'll upgrade again when vista and dx10 comes out so this should only last me a year or two.

    And yes, x800gto is pretty ancient, considering I was already forced to switch to medium setting for the newest games.

    You change your system to a 1.1GHz Celeron then.

    Because I cut my wrist when I experience lag and long wait times.

    Because a Celeron 1.1ghz will produce shit load of lag and wait time.

    Therefore I will bleed to death if I should ever switch to a celeron.

    Because I don't want to die.

    Therefore I refuse to get a 1.1ghz celeron, too uber for me

    Yeah but look at the proof about how great the Celeron is: https://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/hardw...rements-130583

    Agreed.

    He runs cod2 with that system on max @ 1024x768, while I ran it on 1280x1024 with everything on high with my x800gto.

    since x800gto>9250, one can only give the credit to that uber celeron.

    Conclusion: celeron 1.1GHZ>Athlon 64 4000+ 2.8ghz.

    Ubera!
