    Dog Day Afternoon- Al Pacino.
A Brooklyn nobody and two friends try to rob a bank.
    It doesn't go well.
This film (based on real events) is less about the robbery than about Pacino's character, how he was driven to this desperate act and how he deals with it unfolding. It's a great performance.
Directed by Sidney Lumet, Dog Day Afternoon would be a wonderful double feature with Lumet's latest film, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, another character driven story of a robbery gone bad.

Enron: The Smartest Guys In the Room- a documentary about the largest corporate bankruptcy in American history.
A story told on the human level of arrogance, greed and unbelievable chutzpah, this movie exposes the dark underside of capitalism.
I was at times struck by sheer admiration for the balls exhibited by the principle players and then enraged by their cupidity- particularly galling are actual phone transcripts as the energy traders laughingly bring the world's seventh largest economy- California- to it's knees by artificially creating electricity shortages (2001's year long "rolling brown-outs") which ultimately resulted in Arnold Schwarzenegger's election as governor.
    A very interesting film.

The Warriors (The Ultimate Director's Cut).

Uber director Walter Hill's urban western.

The slender plot involves a street gang framed for a crime they didn't commit, fighting overwhelming odds to return to their home turf and safety.

A true triumph of style over substance but terrifically entertaining none the less.8/10

Charlie Wilson's War- Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julia Roberts.
Based on a true story- frankly, you just couldn't make this stuff up- this film is quite an oddity, albeit a quite entertaining one.
What's odd is the main character...the real Charlie Wilson is more handsome than Hanks and was much wilder/more decadent than portrayed in the film.
Snappy writing by Aaron Sorkin and the luminous Julia Roberts only add to the film's appeal.
Hoffman is great as well, and an almost dead ringer for the real Gust Avrakotos.

    I enjoyed it.
