I have been with aol for about a week now and everything is good except they dont offer a static ip, this is very important as i have access to a private FTP but can only register 1 ip with them so everytime i get disconnected or restart my pc i can get in...
anyone have the same problem with them? or is there any software i can use to keep the same ip?
thanks for any help...

Where are you?
In the UK very few ISPs offer a static IP. I think Demon do.
You could get a wireless ADSL router, that will be less likely to disconnect from the internet than your PC, and so your IP address won't change unless you restart the router.

a proxy basically means that no matter what your IP address is, you always connect via another server with a known IP address.
Before:-
You ------> FTP Server
After:-
You ------> Proxy Server -------> FTP Server
Therefore, your credentials remain valid.

If you use a proxy you will always access the ftp site via that. So if your own ip changes it won't really matter as the FTP will see the proxy ergo the same ip.
I don't know if it will work it's just an idea.
