    Stephen King - The Dark Tower Series. My favourite graphic novel series is probably The Preacher.

    Several of the ones mentioned already are great.

    The Foundation series especially.


    But another couple of good ones are:

    The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Stephen Erikson and Richard Morgan's books about Takeshi Kovacs, ie Altered Carbon, Broken Angels and Woken Furies.

    I'll second that about Erikson's series and the Takeshi Kovacs books.

    The Foundation, though - having re-read it a while ago, after remembering it very fondly from having read it during my teenage years, I was pretty disappointed. The writing is pretty simplistic, and a lot of things I used to find clever just seem silly.
