Sometimes TMPGEnc has problems with .asf and .wmv files. AsfTools easily converts them to .avi, which can then be converted to mpeg with TMPGEnc.

ASF tools sux ive used it it puts your avi out of sync
get virtualdub version 1.3 ONLY the reason is that any version after that does not support asf files coz MS wrote them a nasty letter for copyright purpose so get that save ur asf as avi and your done that what I use
Dont use TMPGEnc has too many problems with asf files

I've never had any sync problems with AsfTools.

I tried asftools today worked fine for me. Probably dosen't work on all files the same as TMPGEnc dosen't always work on all avi files. Couldn,t find the earlier version of virtualdub.

Unfortunately. ASF files are the "end result". That means, the file ASF file is the last copy that can be made. Any further copying (or transforming) will create degenerated low quality copies. The ASF file format was not designed to edited. It was most likely created from a live feed video, or from an original clip of higher qaulity.
What you want to do is possible, but you cannot expect the best results.

Yes, I hate asf/wmv files almost as much as I hate realmedia files. I usually just try to avoid them.

hi there !
for large ASF files i've found Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 4+DVD to be outstanding with mpeg 2 encoding and AC3 encoder you convert to svcd dvd and so on. a large download but well worth the effort.
