Most people don't realise that there pc isn't secured with XP, it's not tha your normal ADMIN has an pass that you're save.
You must put an password on your SYSTEMADMIN
Just follow the next steps:
Start = > Run => %SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s => ok
In the left side panel:
Local Users and groups = > users => right side you RIGHT-CLICK an ADMINISTRATOR => Set Password
Seems to be stupid, but it wil secure you to al amateur hackers.

note that this only works on xp pro, as xp home doesnt have "Local Users and groups" in the msc.

$150 is just for the upgrade. its $300 for the full xp pro. and an illegal copy wont work because of the windows activation in xp. the cd-keys are pretty much disposable. unless you can get one that hasnt been used before.

windows xp pro corp (corporate) edition does not need to be activated. the verified hash can be found on this forum. just do a search for it
you will have no problems using it, you don't need to activate it and can get all of the windows updates with it.

it should upgrade from xp home with no probs
of course, it'd be better if you did a clean install, but that might be a bit time consuming
