James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.
Brown was hospitalized in Atlanta with pneumonia on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, his agent said. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side.

The first, best soul music I ever listened to.

To redeem and give meaning to an oft-used assertion, He owned, and that's all there is to that.

Thanks for all the good songs and for all your creativity.

I always enjoy seeing him on TV, so much energy.

I used to play many of his songs way back in the 60's and 70's when I was in a band.
