I'm thinking about getting a DVD burner but I don't know jack about them.
My main concern is can you copy rented DVD's with them and if they do will all DVD burners copy rented (or bought) DVD's or is there something specific I need to look for?

Yes, you can copy a DVD movie but not directly. You need to rip it (remove the copy-protection) to your hard drive with a program like SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter. Also, a dual layered DVD movie can hold up to 9.4 GB while a DVD-R/+R can only hold 4.7GB. Goto http://www.doom9.org/ and http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ for most questions concerning copying DVDs. Both sites will show how to copy DVDs with several different software packages.
