load up your movie in Virtual Dub,choose in video tab
"Full process mode-->Compression-->XviD

The best one I have come across in my years is called DVD2SVCD. It is free and can also be configured to make DVD2AVI or DVD2DVD.

Point 1. With DVD2SVCD it does take along time to make these, however the quality is unquestionably briliant.

Point 2. DVD2AVI there are better programs out there namely Easydivx which is also free.

Point 3. Unless you have a DVD wrighter like me this option is not for you.

Softwaretools take up enormous resources and time.
If you plan on making a lot of svcd's you might consider buying
a videocard with builtin mpeg2-encoder.
So it depends on your hardwarespecs.
