Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

All I want to do is connect my PC to another PC, over the internet. Swap some files. Nothing fancy, just file transfer.

Try packetseek it's only for downloading files and nothing else.

You've already got the needed software. Use MSN messenger.

I don't have MSN messenger. I'd have to get a hotmail account first.
I figured that my PC has an IP and the othe PC also has one too. Why can't I just log onto their PC with some easy softeware.

MSN messenger is included with all versions Windows.
Otherwise Yahoo messenger(free) or AIM(free) will work.
Yes, you have to register. BFD, you'll be up and running in minutes, it's that easy.
IRC isn't easy to use for those who aren't computer savvy. But XiRCON is free.
miRC is a 30 day trial.
Just knowing your IP addresses isn't enough. It's like knowing phone numbers but having no phones to talk with.
