but what about VPS? if it has win03, you have one acc on a dedicated server, and you can install programs, etc... or what?
VPS is a dedicated server which is SHARED by x amount of users. with a dedi server, it only has YOU as its user. whereas with a VPS, there are other users using the same server.

in addition, everything is shared among all those users - HDD, bandwidth, etc. i wouldn't go for a VPS because for as cheap as $40, you can get yourself a cheap dedi running Linux (Windows OS always cost extra $$$)...
    thnx for the answer

i was thinking something like that, just wanted to make it clear

ok, i have my VPS up and running (thanks to sooti), and im very impressed...

    butt, i want more.
i want windows so i can use utorrent to save RAM and CPU and to use RSS and webui among other things.

can anyone recommend me a good, pretty cheap, dedicated server that runs windows.

currently im paying $25 a month(probably will only do a month or two until i can get a windows server) for AMD 64 Athlon 3400+ Equal Share, RAM 512MB, HDD 20GB, 100Mbps Unmetered Shared, Fedora Core 6 x86_64, 100Mbps unmetered.

between $25(haha, yeh right) and $50 would be excellent.

or if someone wants to share one, that would work too.

does your VPS have X support or a vnc server access ? If so, you can run utorrent by wine. I used to do so in my box.

Why is this no longer a sticky post?

It's such a great thread, and very helpful. I'd hate for it to get lost in the shuffle.

I never had memory problems with wine and I am running linux on 128MB RAM (256MB sometimes)

EDiT: BTW please make this thread sticky, OR atleast the first post. It's really helpful

the cheapest you can go + REAL, QUALITY 100Mbit line (unlike DediBox, for example) is:

    EverCase ECR9130
    AMD Sempron 3100+
    512 MB DDR Memory
    1 x 160 GB SATA HD

    2000GB Volume datatraffic
    IP (2)
    APC Remote Reboot (1 port)
    Debian 3.1 or CentOS 4.4

    Euro 49,00 / month
    No setup fee

currently doing 5mb/s+ on ScT... not bad...

EDIT: i added $15/mo for Windows...
share it with somebody else and split the cost, bandwidth, HDD, etc. in half...

yeh, i would do that, but the main thing i host is big files that usually have alot of leechers and not many seeders, so i'd like to be able to keep it up longer than a day.

and i just like utorrent better than torrentflux, i'm just more used to it and it has the RSS option.
