I get these sometimes (never the same one twice, but similar ones). Anyone know if that's randomly generated, if it's a composite from several novels or something, or if it's some weird extract from some modern poetry?

That much I know. But I wonder what texts they use

Might just be a spider trolling through sites and grabbing text that way, I guess

E-Mail spammers should be hung up by the testicles.

    Agreed.

...however, inching back towards my original purpose with this thread: Once I got one where about half of the text read like something out of a fairly interesting sci-fi novel, and I actually sort of felt like reading the rest.

So I was thinking that if the arseholes have to keep on sending people this crap, they could use coherent excerpts from novels or something, and make sure to say where they got it from.

That way, they'd be performing a public service, and they'd be less annoying as well.

Obviously they'd still never, ever be getting money from me, but it'd generate less aggravation, all round.

    That's actually nice lateral thinking.

Albeit they would be breaching copyright.

I thought that you could use short quotes or excerpts for purposes of reviewing and stuff

They could call it sponsored book recommendations

Not that they'd be all that easy to sue, given the nature of a lot of those companies
