Well, everyone has thier opinion on this, but if you want actual science, check out this site:

But yeah, as most people have said NOD32 ranks pretty high up there, as does symantec, but Avira owns them all, apparantly. Especially in scan speed, and the heuristics (detection of malware undetected with patterns) - is is like 3x better than the nearest competition at this! Hmm, 25% or 75% detection, which do you choose?
