Thread: Best Mac OS X Newsreader?

  1. #1
I use newsleeacher for my XP system, but it is not available for my friend's Mac OS X.

What are the best newsreaders for Mac OS X - paid or freeware to grab binary files? Paid is fine - the person using it is not so good with computers, so ease of use is important.

    Thanks!

    theres one on usenetserver.com:

    iGrabNews (Shareware)

Fast, simple and efficient. The is the best OS X news reader around. Designed around NZB usage and heavy binary usage. Support message queuing (stop and resume). Automatic decoding of yEnc, uuencode and BinHex.

    Download

Hello, well i use Unison from Panic right now. It runs great, is fast and reliable.

Also he should use MacPAR Deluxe to check files and auto expand them.

Is this a good strategy to get binaries from Newsgroups using a Mac OS X?

    1. Search and create nzb with binsearch.info
    2. Download the nzb with iGrabnews or other Mac client that supports nzb.

Seems like Macs are not as newsgroup friendly as PC's

Sounds the same as what I do for windows...?

IMHO Unison is pretty much the most userfriendly newsreader on any platform, period. It ha special autogrouping features for browsing binaries which makes things so much simpler. MacPAR deluxe also automates the whole parity checking and decompressing process, even clearing away all the files into the trashcan. Downloading binaries on OS X is for me a hundred times more straightforward than on windows (I use both).

The best newsreader for OSX is without a doubt "SABNZBdPlus"
it will automatically scan your downloads for NZB files, and delete the NZB file after it's initiation and therefor use for the file.
It Will also automatically unpack the PAR files with the unarchiver and restore the file. After which the program will delete all unnecessary files and store the completed download in a designated folder.
    Absolute winner and it's free.

I have no stock options in this company

Also available for window PC Machine people.
