For those of you who had uninstalled XP hotfix 811493 because of performance issues, a new release by microsoft has addressed the previous problems.

But it still isn't needed by anyone unless you allow strangers to type malicious code into your computer with YOUR keyboard!!!

Or if you run terminal services, a server application.

Oh right. Does this include p2p programs such as Kazaa Lite? It is kinda running as a server, isn't it?

    Cheers mate.

It is but you don't normally have the kind of terminal session they'e talking about open with kazaa.
For telnet or Netmeeting or maybe even MSN messenger you might wanna put it back in.

It's really more like a remote administrative login that's a problem. If you remove all the remote desktop help, remote login, and remotely accessable registry paths in XP, this patch really isn't needed.

Basically, anything where someone can interact directly with you or the computer might be a risk.
