I was looking at the numbers that VB posted and I have a suggestion, (keep in mind I haven't slept for a while, so forgive me if this is out of line) aaaannnyyway..
Have you ever considered putting a time limit on membership, what I mean is there are obviously a hell of a lot of registered members but I am guessing only a relatively small number of them use the forums, would it therefore be worthwhile (I don't know how easy this would be to implement) setting a kind of time limit in so far as if you don't enter any of the forums for a considerable time then your membership is removed. Obviously the time limit would have to be a reasonable time and you could always simply archive the data rather than physically deleting it but I just figured it might help in keeping the server ticking over a bit easier. I am not trying to cause anyone trouble it's just I know the problems that can occur when a datatbase becomes way too big.
As I said it's just a thought so no flames please.

and don't u just think of the greatest things when you're dead tired? and then forget it when u wake up!
Doesn't even need to be a post cause that would just mean people spamming up the forum just so they can stay registered, the server may be able to detect the sql that is executed to open up a/any topic and that would be enough so if you don't visit the forum for even a look then out you go.
Ok I am still thinking about this and I suddenly realise that you may very well be humouring me!!!
Should I just go and sleep now?
