It sucks for me because I only have a laptop to do all of my dling and seeding so it gets ridiculously hot. Are seedboxes compatible with laptops? Or how exactly do they work?

Pretty close to 24/7 from my home and sometimes I use a 10mbit connection at work (which can be utilized for about 5mbit without disturbing anyone) that helps me keep or build a ratio at trackers that are difficult to upload to.
The larger problem most likely is where you download (and have to seed back) as some trackers have short windows in which seeding is still possible. Of course on large trackers (ie bitsoup has about 100k users after all, TL 200k) there will always be people who jump on a torrent late. On those trackers the solution is easy: keep seeding and leave your pc on. On others you might want to think about helping your ratio in other ways that require more work and attentiveness.
