Xp apparently has some problems shutting down.
My comp used to do that every once and a while.
Go to www. slawdog.com and get their "Smart shutdown" program.
Fixed it for me.

When you tell xp to shutdown and it restarts or gives you the message saying its safe to shutdown your computer and it doesnt really shut off. That problem resides in your bios. It also has to do with the disanle fast shutdown option
well i havent changed nethin in my bios lately.......Originally posted by shn@29 June 2003 - 22:29

2)ive got my start menu bar on the left, and told it 2 auto disapear (cause it takes up 1/4 of the screen), however, if i wanna look @ it, and move my cursor 2 the left it doesnt just pop-up (if i have a program maximized) like in older windows versions....... is there neway 2 make this happen (without having 2 press the windows button)
I meant disable fast shutdown. If its enabled depending on your bios it will shut completely off power wise, and you wont have to shut it off manually.
Sorry my spelling sucked I was on my way out the house.
