How 2 Change Avi 2 A....

Hello
is it any simple way to do this??? I have alot of 700 mb avi movies and i probably have to split them into 2 parts so i can change them or just use DVD cd but can i split movies into 2 parts using VirtualDub?? or is there any other programm then when i finish that how can i change a movie so i can play them in a dvd player
i have Nero 5.5.10.20 burning room and express and there i can choose to burn svcd or vcd cd´s i cant do that because the movies r 2 big for the cd´s so i have to split them up but can i just change the movies into vcd before i burn them because nero burns them and changes them at the same time.
Does anyone know about good programm to do this and could he Please
tell me how to do everything step by step??????

and i forgot one thing i have not so fast pc pentium 3 and 64 mb ram so will that corrup when it changing into a vcd and how long time will it take???
