Thread: Is This Possible?

  1. #1
i have an asus a7n8x motherboard with dual lan ports.
i was wondering if it's possible to connect a cat5 cable up between the two ports and share files with myself?

    a simple (and stupid) question.

the only reason why it might not be possible is because i'm not sure if i can specify different ip's for my 2 lan ports

any help would be great, thanks

just likje to know why? also not to sure on this one but it think u can specify different ips per lan card.

edit: also the cable would need to be a cat5 crossover cable.

    there's absolutely no reason whatsoever

it's just one of those questions that i've been asking myself.
i wasn't sure, but i thought someone on here might know.

it looks like i'll just have to go on and give it a try...what's the worst that can happen?

p.s. i already have the crossover cat5 cable

    ok, just done it

no problem with the ip's, was able to set different ones for each lan port.

as predicted by myself (and postured by livy), this idea was totally useless.
the only point was that i now know it's possible

as a review, this is as useful as an inflatable dartboard, chocolate kettle, sunroof on a submarine etc...

    just a quick update

i've found an actual use for this setup

rather than cut and pasting files across hard drive partitions (which uses a lot of system resources), i can transfer them across ftp. this is quicker and easier on resources.

How advanced are the mathematics courses required for your major?

Only calculus? Of how many variables? Linear algebra? Differentials?

Whoops, I might get in trouble for asking you in hardware. You know Lamsey's been out on the prowl...
