ive heard of it too but i dont remeber the name. are you by any chance using a p4. i was reading about a flaw in win xp that causes p4 processors to perform almost 10X slower than they should when doing specific tasks.

    It was Service Pack 2.
Some people had it on the auto update for some reason.. but windows update doesnt have it at all.
I think a jerk coworker inside microsoft did that to piss people off... maybe he's stealin your computer resources.

so anytihng with sp2 in the title I should delete? Because I have loads of SP2 "hotfixes" in my add/remove programs list, should I get rid of them?

Will it harm my pc to get rid of all these windows updates?

Some of them have the AVG icon next to them, although they still say windows SP2 hotfix 938294894-2903480234802348-039480923489 whatever, is that normal?

Is it ok to have these show up in your add remove programs folder?

Thanks for anyone who can bother to reply, or who has replied

im just nervous about how windows will be affected if they are removed

I do my updates two every three days, this way if there`s something "diferent" is easy to spot and check. You don`t have to update all at once.

It is XP Fix 811493 that you are thinking of. Microsoft have, however, released an updated version of this fix. Try removing it, it may be that you still have the old version.

I've applied all the hotfixes and patches released for XP to date, and haven't suffered any
    performance related side-effects.
