Is Bittorrent Secure?

Hello ppl,

I'm having some trouble using Kazaa here at my office (governemt job), because I got cought a while back, and since then they have been pretty tight about security around here. So now programs like Kazaa, emule, Overnet....are all unquestionably out of bounds (unless I am willing to look for another job that is B) ). So I did the next best thing: FTP sites and warez (no, I do not want FTP sites or warez sites, or anything related to them), but I found out that the sheer ammount of crap I had to dig through(porn, dialers, voting pages, porn, porn, porn, pop-ups..... ) to get to the good stuff made it impossible for me to get anything that way. So then I rememberd Bittorent, even thought it's p2p, is it easily identifiable, or distinguishible from a FTP transfer, in short, can the network administrator (from the network I'm on at work) find out that I've been using Bittorent easily, or will a bittorent tsansfer simply appear as a reguler FTP transfer?

If yes, is there any other way to download stuff discretly? 'cause I really don't want to waste a 4MB/s connection

I doubt bittorrent is secure,
personally hate the program even though it had promise,
with a 10mb conecction it was still slow in downloading, though it was fast while uploading to others , it kept going for days dling at 0.1 kbs but uploaded at 130+ kbs to allot of people. Even tried the other non official ones with the upload restictions didn't improve much. And yes the bittorent packets are distinctive, bittorent must also connect to a tracker server wich are easely blocked by administrators.

ehhh....yeah, I just found out that Bittorrent is also rather vulnerable to admin control .....however Earth Station 5 (ES5) places a lot of hype on the security issue....so does anyone have any experience with ES5 relating to network discretion/undetectability??

This is my last hope for p2p at work, so if ES5 dosen't work I'll have to go back to hunting for decent FTP sites (if they exist)

Yeah, well when U stay at work 4 days a week, working from 6am to 10pm it's pretty hard to concentrate all day ....not that I'm in some kind of slavery or anything, it's just that my office is about 3 hours away from where I live, so I stay (and sleep) at work from monday to thursday.....and the regular work hours are from 7am to 5pm, but I still have to work my ass off to get everything done.

Anyway, I've just been going through the Earth Station 5 forum, and it seems they have a lot of security on that porgram (SSL, proxies...) So I was wondering if I used SSL and proxies (SSL Stealth mode on ES5) the network admin would be able to see what I was transfering?

I asked this question over there, but there aren't many members, so replies take time....

if the network admin has configured everything properly he will notice..!
With stuf like ISA server he can see every site which has been accessed from which pc in the office. he can see the amount of data being transferred.. all that... Only question is can he do something with that information??

Unfoutunatley, yes. He can come over to my office and unplug my PC, and tell me not to turn it on till a "inquisition squad" came over and analised what whas beeng transferd, what was installed etc...
