though i have quicktime and real alternatives installed

You can't play them in WMP you need to install media player classic (included in the installer)
open media player classic (C:\Program Files\Media Player Classic)
View -> options -> formats, now scroll down till you see:
quicktime file.
real audio file.
real media file.
They all must be selected.
now try again
Real Alternative is not fully working with streaming real media files

what do you mean? If you have the alternative packs installed but not the media player classic then download the classic player and do what I posted earlier

I have no problem watching these formats
and I do use MPC
Im just curious to know what is it MPC has that WMP doesnt
see I can install nimo
and watch AVIs in WMP
but I installed the alternatives
and still have to install another player?
