well you basically have to keep changing it and in the process are messing up your uploaders, after a while you get a lot of hits on your port and that kinda cloggs up your bandwidth so when you change ports you get free flow for a bit

There's a problem with doing this repeatedly to speed up your connection:
Just because your KL++ quit listening on an ip port doesn't mean people QUIT trying to connect on that ip port! So that continues to eat both download AND upload bandwidth (for the TCP/ip SYN ACK reply data packet.)
If you're sharing LOTS (1,000+) of files, then you can expect to receive FAR more upload requests than you can fill. It's less likely to happen if you're behind a router and have a LAN ip on your KL++ computer, but it can still happen while you're continuously on KL++ and sharing.
To avoid this, you have to share less -- or rather share MORE rare stuff and LESS common stuff that people can already/still find elsewhere.
Also, to get out of an upload flood/overload situation:
Try setting uploads to 9 or more, letting them all fill up, then turning sharing OFF.
Those uploads will continue till they complete or fail, but NEW uploads can't start.
When most of the uploads have quit, turn on sharing again for a short interval and let it fill up again and turn sharing OFF again.
While sharing is OFF, new searches cannot find your files and those trying to download from you can only find you because they have your ip address PERMANENTLY SAVED in their unfinished downloads .DAT files.
So by starting lots of uploads and turning off sharing, you upload to OLD requests without getting 100's of NEW ones per hour!
Also, disable allow listing of your shared files by other users if you haven't already. This will prevent (at least till you get this problem under control) new people finding your files and trying to download LOTS of them.
That's the problem with being able to find and download files from millions of users -- they can also find and TRY to download files from you... all at once!

Hmm.. I did it, and my software dowload isn't going too well, but the song is. Maybe this is cause I played with the Jump Supernodes too though?

once your download has the source ip it doesn't matter what supernode you are on, unless the sn itselfe is a crapy oneOriginally posted by Mat_At_Home@9 November 2003 - 12:21

from 1214 to 32656 my downloads seem to get some more boost .
i tried this method and it kranked my dl from 56kb/s to anywhere from 90-160kb/s.
give it a try and let me know how it goes for ya
i hope this tip works for other people using k++ also
