my friend took his girlfriend away to Paris, France for their 1 year anniversary, but kept it a surprise til the night before, and had secretly arranged with her boss to get her the weekend off work. It wasn't all that expensive, and she got to see her family who have moved back there for a few years while her dad works there.

Romantic, plus you get a wee break away from it all yourself aswell, so it's a win-win situation. she was very happy.

I don't know where you stay, but a romantic trip away would be a good idea.
